• On this day back in 1978, the Spurs’ George Gervin set the NBA record at the time for most points scored in a quarter with 33 on his way to a career high 63 points. It was a pivotal performance from “The Iceman” as he was racing for the season scoring title with David Thompson, who had just posted a 73-point game to take the lead earlier that day. Gervin’s 63-point effort put him back on top and gave him his first of four scoring titles.
